22nd July 2010 - Warrington Wizards v Nottingham Outlaws (24/07/10)
Warrington Wizards will be looking to carry on from last week’s excellent performance when they welcome Nottingham Outlaws to Wilderspool Stadium on Saturday afternoon in The Co-operative Rugby League Conference National. Kick off is 3.30pm.
The Wizards were much improved from the previous couple of games against a big and physical Dewsbury side but a stunning first half showing paved the way for a very comfortable victory.
After the Celtic game Head Coach Chris Campbell said, “That was more like the Wizards that we have come to expect. We completely dominated from the first whistle and I was delighted with every one of my players. We have struggled for the past couple of weeks but we really hit the straps today and got what we deserved. Our half backs Ian Stephenson and Alan Reddecliff combined brilliantly and with Warren Ayres directing operations from dummy half we always had Celtic on the back foot and this enabled Jono Smith to once again cause havoc all over the field. The whole team worked really hard for each other and got their just rewards.”
Campbell added, “We now have to back this up again this week when Nottingham come to Wilderspool. We know that they are at the wrong end of the league table but they have been playing a lot better than what the results show. We will expect them to come at us early on and we must make sure that we are fully switched on and not let them get on top. They have the current RLC National Player of the Year in Adam Millward in their front row and he is always a handful but we have plenty of quality in our ranks so if we play to the best of our ability then we should get the win that we desperately need if we are to keep the pressure on Bramley at the top of the league.”
For Saturday’s game Campbell himself is likely to return to the side after missing the last six matches through injury. He will also hope to have Nick Owen, Darren Forshaw and Matt Clarke available for selection but he will be without Carl Leach, Craig Middlemore and Jono Smith along with long term absentees Danny Shaw, Wez Lawton and Simon McEvoy.
15th July 2010 - Warrington Wizards v Dewsbury Celtic (17/07/10)
Warrington Wizards entertain Dewsbury Celtic on Saturday afternoon in The Co-operative Rugby League Conference National. Kick off is 4.30pm at Wilderspool Stadium.
The Wizards had a hard fought win at Liverpool last Friday evening and will be keen to get another victory as they bid to remain in second place in the league table.
Head Coach Chris Campbell said after the Liverpool game, “We were not at our best on the night but we dug deep and gained an ‘ugly’ victory which was very important. The lads were getting a bit frustrated out on the field and this led to us making too many unforced handling errors that allowed Liverpool to stay in the game. We know that we need to improve and we will make sure we knuckle down in training to iron out some of our weaknesses.”
Campbell added, “Dewsbury inflicted upon us our first defeat of the season in May so we know that they are a very talented outfit. They have several amateur internationals in their squad and will provide us with a tough assignment on Saturday. They have suffered some very narrow defeats over recent weeks in games that they were unlucky to lose so we will definitely not be taking them lightly. We have a very talented squad of our own and I’m sure that a really big win is not too far around the corner. We just need to be patient and make sure that we do the basics right and this will start with the Dewsbury game.”
For Saturday’s game Campbell will have Matt Wilson, Danny Burgan and Dan Faulkner available as well as new signing Dan Stubbs who is a big front rower currently in the England Lionhearts squad.
8th July 2010 - Liverpool Buccaneers v Warrington Wizards (09/07/10)
Warrington Wizards will be looking to bounce back from Sunday’s defeat at Hemel Stags when they travel the short distance to play local rivals Liverpool Buccaneers in The Co-operative Rugby League Conference National on Friday evening. The game will take place at Bold Miners ARLFC, Parr, St. Helens with a 7.30pm kick off.
After the Hemel game Wizards Head Coach Chris Campbell said, “It was very disappointing for us to come down here with a much changed side and not be able to put in the performance that we would have hoped to.The lads that came in all gave 100% but when you are missing so many regular players it disrupts your shape and this played into Hemel’s hands. We were on top for the opening quarter and looked in control but a couple of lapses allowed them to score two quick tries against the run of play and that gave them confidence. We suffered a couple of injuries that further depleted us and although we were still in the game until the final eight minutes, when they ran in three tries, we were always up against it.”
Campbell added, “We must now get down to work in training on Tuesday and Thursday and make sure that we are properly prepared for our game at Liverpool on Friday evening. We know that they will be fired up and ready for us so we must be ready to match them. We need to get back to winning ways straight away and keep ourselves in second place in the table. We have six games left now and our target is to win them all so that we go into the Play Off’s in confident mood.”
For Friday’s game Campbell will hope to have Alan Reddecliff, Matt Clarke, Darren Forshaw, Nick Braide, Ryan Millington and Ryan Cosgrove all available after missing the Hemel game but will definitely be without himself, Wez Lawton, Simon McEvoy and Danny Shaw with long term injuries.
1st July 2010 - Hemel Stags v Warrington Wizards (04/07/10) Warrington Wizards will be hoping to keep the pressure on Bramley Buffaloes at the top of the league when they travel to Hemel Stags on Sunday in The Co-operative Rugby League Conference National. The coach leaves The Village Hotel at 9.00am for any supporters wishing to travel. Please contact Nikki Whalley on 01925 837829 to secure your place.
The Wizards had a very good win at home on Saturday against Huddersfield Underbank Rangers and will be looking to back that up with a victory at the Stags, who have also been in fine form of late and are only four points behind the Wizards.
Wizards Assistant Coach Mike Grady said after the Huddersfield game, “We didn’t play anything like our best today until the final twenty minutes but once we got ahead we managed to put the game to bed. I think the heat played a big part in the game so for the lads to go out and play in them conditions and come out on top was a superb effort. We know that there are things that we need to work on and we hope to iron them out in training this week and get ourselves up for what is a crucial game away at Hemel.”
Grady added, “Without doubt the Hemel game will be very tough especially away from home but we know what a crucial game it is for us and we know we will have to make sure that we are at our best if we are to have any chance of coming away with the points. We suffered a few injuries against Huddersfield which we will have to monitor during the week but as we shown at Featherstone a couple of weeks ago we have the quality in the squad to get the job done.”
For Sunday’s game the Wizards will have Carl Leach and Shaun Gilmour back in their line up although they will be without Danny Shaw, Alan Reddecliff and Ryan Cosgrove.
24th June 2010 - Warrington Wizards v Huddersfield Underbank Rangers (26/06/10)
Warrington Wizards entertain Huddersfield Underbank Rangers in The Co-operative Rugby League Conference National on Saturday afternoon. Kick off is 3.30pm at Wilderspool Stadium. Admission is £3 for Adults and £1 for Concessions.
The Wizards currently lie in second place in the league table three points behind leaders Bramley Buffaloes and will be looking to build on the excellent win at Featherstone Lions last time out. Huddersfield meanwhile come to Wilderspool having lost at Bramley on Saturday and they will be keen to get back to winning ways and to also banish the memory of the heavy home loss they suffered at the hands of the Wizards in the opening fixture of the season.
Head Coach Chris Campbell said, “We are really looking forward to what could turn out to be yet another fascinating encounter. We have had a week off and that come at the perfect time for us. We had several players carrying injuries and it has given them chance to rest and now they are ready to get back out on the field and continue the fine form that we have shown on a fairly consistent basis bar two games. We are now entering the second half of the season and it is vital that we get the three points on Saturday.”
Campbell added, “Huddersfield are a very well organised side who can be extremely difficult to break down when they are in top form. What we have to do is ensure that we are properly prepared and go out there in a positive manner. We need to make sure that our discipline is good and also that we keep the unforced errors down to a bare minimum. If we do this then there is no reason why we shouldn’t get the win that we desire.”
For Saturday’s game the Wizards will be without Campbell (hamstring) and Darren Forshaw and Shaun Gilmour (holiday) but will hope to have Dave Yii, Carl Leach, Simon McEvoy, Nick Braide, Anthony Braide and Matt Wilson available to come into the side after missing the Featherstone game.
10th June 2010 - Featherstone Lions v Warrington Wizards (12/06/10)
Warrington Wizards will be looking to build on their excellent win over Kippax Knights when they travel to Featherstone Lions on Saturday in The Co-operative Rugby League Conference National. The coach leaves The Village Hotel at 11.15am for any supporters wishing to travel. Please contact Nikki Whalley on 01925 837829 to secure your place.
The Wizards bounced back from the previous week’s disappointing defeat at home to Bramley by turning in a stunning second half showing to register a comprehensive victory against the Knights who were one place above them in the league table before the game.
Wizards Assistant Coach Mike Grady said after the Kippax game, “We are made up to get the win against a very good Kippax side who having some very talented players in their ranks. We started very slowly and deservedly trailed by ten points at half time but we were a completely different side after the break and dominated for long periods despite the intense heat. We spoke in training about the need to improve our discipline and defence and we did that today although we are fully aware that we still have some work to do in both areas.”
Grady added, “We have moved into second place in the table but know that there is still a very long way to go. We know that there is still a lot more to come from the team and we will get better over the next few weeks. We travel to Featherstone Lions on Saturday and that will be yet another tough battle. They lie in third place in the table, just one point behind us, and are always a very formidable team to play against especially on their home ground but we will make sure that we prepare properly in training so that we give ourselves the best possibility of winning the game. If we do turn up with the right attitude and play to the best of our ability then there is no reason why we cannot come away with the right result.”
For Saturday’s game the Wizards will welcome back captain Alan Reddecliff who missed the Kippax game through being on holiday and they will also hope to have Carl Leach available after missing the last two games with a back injury.
3rd June 2010 - Warrington Wizards v Kippax Knights (05/06/10)
Warrington Wizards entertain league newcomers Kippax Knights in The Co-operative Rugby League Conference National on Saturday afternoon. Kick off is 3.30pm at Wilderspool Stadium. Admission is £3 for Adults and £1 for Concessions.
The Wizards will be looking to get back to winning ways at the first opportunity following a disappointing home defeat to Bramley Buffaloes last weekend against a Kippax side who will be making their first ever visit to Wilderspool.
After the Bramley game Head Coach Chris Campbell said, “We are really gutted about the result tonight. I feel that our discipline let us down and that is not what the Wizards are about, we got sucked into it and ended up paying a heavy price. If we had concentrated on playing the rugby that we are capable of we would have won the game comfortably. The sending off in the first half really cost us in the end and there will be a few harsh words spoken at training as I am determined to iron this element out of our game. On the positives there were a few lads who really put their hands up and had a real go at Bramley and they can be really proud of the way they played.”
Campbell added, “We now can look towards next weekend when we come up against a Kippax side who have had an excellent start to life in this higher division. They had a fantastic win at Bramley in their last away game and although they did suffer a home defeat to Hemel on Saturday afternoon they will come to Wilderspool fancying their chances of putting one over us and we must ensure that we are properly prepared and in the right frame of mind. We know that on our day we are capable of beating anybody but we will have to turn up prepared to put in the hard work for each other. If we do that then there is no reason why we shouldn’t collect the win. Kippax are only one point and one place above us in the league so this is a big opportunity for us to get ourselves back in the top three.”
For Saturday’s game the Wizards will be without Campbell (hamstring) and Alan Reddecliff and Shaun Gilmour (both holiday) aswell as Chris Mellor and Stuart Pirrie (both knee) but should have Dave Yii, Carl Leach and Mark Grady available to come into the side.
27th May 2010 - Warrington Wizards v Bramley Buffaloes (29/05/10)
Warrington Wizards entertain Bramley Buffaloes in a mouth-watering top of the table clash in The Co-operative Rugby League Conference National on Saturday evening. Kick off is 7.00pm at Wilderspool Stadium. Admission is £3 for Adults and £1 for Concessions.
The Wizards will be going into the Bramley game in confident mood after an excellent away win at Nottingham last week and coupled with other results has seen the Wizards move back up into second place, one point behind the Buffaloes.
After the win at Nottingham, Assistant Coach Mike Grady said, “We wanted a reaction today after last week’s poor defeat and we got one. We trained very well all week and that has paid off for us. To come to Nottingham and put a performance on like we did in searing heat was a great effort by all the lads. The Outlaws are always tough to beat at their own ground so that makes the win all the sweeter. Our goal line defence was very good and that laid the platform for our victory.”
Grady added, “This sets us up very nicely indeed for our clash on Saturday evening against the reigning Champions. Games between us and Bramley are always memorable occasions and this one will not disappoint. The Buffaloes, although they have moved to the top of the league, will be smarting from their home defeat to Kippax Knights last Friday evening and we must make sure that we are ready for them. We will be working hard once again in training this week so that we are properly prepared for what we will be up against. The club, coaching staff and players are all looking forward to this one, and if people enjoy watching quality Rugby League games then this will be the one to watch as it will be a cracker.”
For Saturday’s game the Wizards should have Nick Braide and Dave Yii available after holidays but they are still likely to be without Chris Mellor (knee), Shaun Gilmour (broken toe) and Stuart Pirrie (knee).
20th May 2010 - Nottingham Outlaws v Warrington Wizards (22/05/10)
Warrington Wizards aim to bounce back from last Saturday’s disappointing first defeat of the season when they travel to Nottingham Outlaws on Saturday in The Co-operative Rugby League Conference National. The coach leaves The Village Hotel at 10.00am for any supporters wishing to travel. Please contact Nikki Whalley on 01925 837829 to secure your place.
The Wizards were comprehensively disposed of by Dewsbury Celtic and will need to perform a lot better against a Nottingham side who are always formidable opponents on their own ground.
Wizards Assistant Coach Mike Grady said after the Dewsbury game, “We went away from everything we had worked on and spoke about in training and we never competed from the first minute. The only time we played anything like we can do was in the final ten minutes where we ran in four tries but by then it was far too late. We expect a positive reaction in training this week to put things right and get back to winning ways at Nottingham. The coaching staff were very disappointed with the performance although we did have several players missing but that is no excuse as the seventeen we had on duty should have been more than capable of winning the game.”
Grady added, “We will monitor the players in training and if we feel we need to make changes for the Nottingham game then we will. The Outlaws will be very tough opponents and if we turn up and play like last week then we will be in for a very difficult afternoon but I am very confident that last week was just a blip and we will get back to playing how we know we can do and get the right result.”
For Saturday’s game the Wizards should welcome back Carl Leach, Danny Shaw and Nick Braide who all missed the Dewsbury game but will still be without Dave Yii (holiday) and Stuart Pirrie (knee).
13th May 2010 - Dewsbury Celtic v Warrington Wizards (15/05/10)
Warrington Wizards travel to Dewsbury Celtic on Saturday in The Co-operative Rugby League Conference National. The coach leaves The Village Hotel at 11.30am for any supporters wishing to travel. Please contact Nikki Whalley on 01925 837829 to secure your place.
The Wizards will be looking to continue their fine start to the season that has seen them register wins in each of their opening three league games but will know that they will be coming up against a Dewsbury side who are very difficult to beat on their own patch.
After the Liverpool game Wizards Head Coach Chris Campbell said, “It was a great result for us. I thought the lads played very well in patches but there is still plenty for us to work on. We can see that the work we are putting in at training is starting to pay off but we need to play for the full eighty minutes and play a bit smarter; when we do that we will really take some stopping. Our attacking play was awesome at times. Our forwards take some stopping and our backs can finish from anywhere on the field. Once we start to cut out our mistakes and improve our completion rate we will build more pressure on teams and score even more points. We must give full credit to Liverpool, as although they were behind on the scoreboard, they kept coming at us for the entire game. We have won our first three games but we won’t start to get carried away. The coaching staff will ensure that the players’ keep their feet firmly on the ground. To put fifty points on a team that came to Wilderspool last season and beat us by over thirty just shows how far we have come in a short period of time. The lads are really enjoying their rugby at the moment and the whole club is buzzing. We have competition for places throughout the whole team which is great and the lads that have recently come into the team are doing a great job in staking a claim for a regular place in the seventeen.”
Campbell added, “We now turn our attention to Dewsbury Celtic. We have two training sessions to prepare the lads for what will be another very tough fixture. We will be working hard to iron out a few things and put our game plan into practice. We will then turn up at Dewsbury fully focussed and ready to go out and try to make it four from four.”
For the game at Dewsbury, Campbell is likely to be without Danny Shaw, Anthony Braide and Nick Braide aswell as Craig Middlemore (ankle), Stuart Pirrie (knee) and Dave Yii (holiday) but Simon McEvoy has returned to the club and will be in the squad along with Mark Grady and Tom Lander.
6th May 2010 - Warrington Wizards v Liverpool Buccaneers (06/05/10)
Warrington Wizards entertain neighbours Liverpool Buccaneers in The Co-operative Rugby League Conference National on Thursday evening. Kick off is 8.00pm at Wilderspool Stadium. Admission is £3 for Adults and £1 for Concessions.
The Wizards have opened the season with two impressive victories and will be looking to continue in the same vein against the Buccaneers who themselves will be hoping to repeat last season’s first ever victory at Wilderspool.
Head Coach Chris Campbell is looking forward to the game. He said, “We have had a good start but know that there is a long way to go. The players have really responded to what Mike Grady and I have asked of them so far. Training has been very good and the lads have enjoyed getting stuck in with the hard work. The team spirit is great and that is showing in the way that we are playing. Liverpool will provide us with another tough challenge but we will be ready for them. We want to make Wilderspool a fortress once again so that teams don’t enjoy coming there to play us.”
Campbell added, “Playing under the floodlights is something that we enjoy and hopefully the supporters will come out in force once again and get behind us. This is our local derby and a lot of the lads know each other so that should add a little extra spice to the game. We have had nearly two weeks to prepare for this and will be raring to go come kick off time.”
For Thursday’s game the Wizards will have Danny Shaw, Nick Braide and Anthony Braide available after they missed the Hemel game and they are also boosted by the return to the club of Chris Mellor. Dave Yii (holiday) and Craig Middlemore who damaged his ankle in training on Tuesday night are likely to be the only absentees.
22nd April 2010 - Warrington Wizards v Hemel Stags (25/04/10)
Warrington Wizards entertain Hemel Stags in their first home league fixture in The Co-operative Rugby League Conference National on Saturday afternoon. Kick off is 3.30pm at Wilderspool Stadium. Admission is £3 for Adults and £1 for Concessions.
The Wizards got their season off to a flying start last weekend with a stunning 54-20 victory at Huddersfield Underbank Rangers and they will be looking to back this up with a win in front of their own fans against a Hemel side who will be smarting from an opening day defeat to Bramley Buffaloes.
Assistant Coach Mike Grady was very happy with how the Wizards performed on Sunday. He said, “We were outstanding all the way through the team and they did everything that we asked of them. To come to last season’s losing Grand Finalists and put over fifty points on them is a great effort from the whole squad and everyone involved at the club. The forwards were very dominant and set a great platform for us. We have thrown a marker down for the season now; we have set ourselves some high goals this year and this is our first step towards that. We made a couple of errors towards the end of the first half that we got punished for but we were ruthless in the second half and completely dominated.
Grady added, “We need to build on this for the rest of the season and that means that we follow this win up with another performance next weekend against Hemel. We have had some almighty battles with them over the past few years. They are always keenly contested encounters and Saturday promises to be no different. If we can play like we did at Huddersfield we will give ourselves a great chance of getting another win under our belts.”
For Saturday’s game the Wizards will add Tom Lander, John Morley and Mark Grady to their squad and will also have Graham Healey available after holiday but they will be without centre Danny Shaw, prop forward Nick Braide and second row Anthony Braide. 15th April 2010 - Huddersfield Underbank Rangers v Warrington Wizards (18/04/10)
Warrington Wizards begin their 2010 The Co-operative Rugby League Conference campaign this coming Sunday when they travel to Huddersfield Underbank Rangers. The coach leaves The Village Hotel at 11.30am for any supporters wishing to travel. Please contact Nikki Whalley on 01925 837829 to secure your place.
Huddersfield were last season’s beaten Grand Finalists and will provide tough opposition but the Wizards enjoyed a good recent run in the Carnegie Challenge Cup and hopefully that will put them in good stead on Sunday.
Head Coach Chris Campbell is looking forward to getting the league campaign underway. He said, “This is what we have been working towards since we started pre-season training in January. The four games we had in the Challenge Cup were a bonus and have given us the ideal preparation for what promises to be a very exciting season. The competition within the league looks the strongest it has ever done and it is upto us to make sure that we are ready. The lads are really keen to get off to a flying start and we will be giving it our best shot. Underbank are notoriously formidable on their own ground and they use the enormous slope to good effect but we have played there enough over the last few years for that not to be an issue.”
Campbell added, “I am really pleased with the squad that we have assembled and the team spirit is first class. We have plenty of competition for places which is what we need to keep everybody on their toes. We can’t wait to get onto the field on Sunday and get the season underway.”
4th March 2010 - Warrington Wizards v Swinton Lions (05/03/10)
Warrington Wizards have a plum home tie against Co-operative Championship One side Swinton Lions in the Carnegie Challenge Cup 3rd Round on Friday evening. Kick off is 8.00pm at Wilderspool Stadium. Admission is Adults £6 and Concessions £3 and tickets are available from Warrington Wolves Wolfware Shop.
The Wizards put themselves in the hat for a crack against a professional side with a cracking comeback win against the British Army in the 2nd Round and will now be hoping that they can cause an upset and defeat their higher league opponents and put themselves into the 4th Round and a possible tie with Super League neighbours Warrington Wolves.
Player/Coach Chris Campbell is relishing the opportunity of playing against one of his former clubs. He said, “To get a home draw at this stage of the competition against a pro side is fantastic for the club and everybody involved at the Wizards is looking forward to the game. We will probably be going into the game as the underdogs in most peoples’ eyes but the players will be really giving it their best shot and if we play to our full potential then there is no reason why we cannot pull of a shock win. We will give Swinton the respect that they deserve but once we are on that field we will be getting amongst them and hopefully we will come out on top.”
Campbell added, “Swinton have several quality players in their squad who have played at the highest level but we have plenty of talent in our side and the lads are very hungry for success themselves so it promises to be a fantastic occasion. I hope that the people of Warrington turn up on the night and get behind us.”
For the game against Swinton, Campbell will hope to have centre Danny Shaw available after injury ruled him out of the British Army game. Winger Craig Middlemore, centre Graham Healey and stand off Anthony Braide are also in the nineteen man squad although winger Darren Forshaw misses out though injury.
11th February 2010 - Warrington Wizards v British Army (14/02/10)
Warrington Wizards have a mouth-watering home game this coming Sunday when they entertain the British Army in the Carnegie Challenge Cup 2nd Round. Kick off is 2.00pm at Wilderspool Stadium.
The Wizards will be looking to carry on their good form from their two previous cup ties against a formidable Army side and gain a place against a professional side in the third round.
Head Coach Chris Campbell is relishing the challenge of playing against a strong Army side. He said, “This games promises to be a high quality encounter. They will be very fit and physical but we know that we are capable of matching them if we play to our full potential. They had an excellent win at Featherstone Lions in the last round so will no doubt come to us in confident mood.”
Campbell added, “Our win at the RAF last week gave us all a massive lift and we are now desperate to get the right result against The Army and secure our place in the third round draw. We weren’t at our best against the RAF but the team spirit was tremendous and that is what saw us home. The lads are all enjoying playing for each other and that is showing out on the pitch. I hope that we can get a good crowd behind us on Sunday; I am certain they will not be disappointed with the quality of our play.”
For Sunday’s game Campbell will have scrum half Warren Ayres available for the first time this season after missing the opening two games due to being on honeymoon. He may also have Dave Yii and Anthony Braide available after they both missed the game at the RAF.
28th January 2010 - RAF v Warrington Wizards (31/01/10)
Warrington Wizards travel to take on the RAF this coming Sunday in the Carnegie Challenge Cup 1st Round following their comprehensive victory over Birmingham University. The coach leaves The Village Hotel at 9.00am for any supporters wishing to travel. Please contact Nikki on 01925 837829 to secure your place. The game takes place at RAF Cranwell, Sleaford, Lincs, NG34 8HB with a 1.30pm kick off.
The Wizards will be looking to build on the win against Birmingham as they attempt to progress to the second round against a side that are usually very hard to beat especially on their own patch.
Wizards Assistant Coach Mike Grady, appointed to work alongside Chris Campbell, was very pleased with what he saw against Birmingham. He said, “Considering we have only managed to have two training sessions, both indoors, it was a very good performance. It was the first time a lot of the players had played together so we couldn’t have asked for any more from them. There are obviously a few things that we will need to work on in the week but there were a lot of positives. Birmingham provided a very tough test as they did the basics right and didn’t stop coming at us, but our lads stood up to be counted when it mattered. I thought that our forwards set the platform with some great defence and some big shots but from 1 to 17 we performed really well and they have all made a claim to keep hold of the jersey.”
Grady added, “We are pleased to progress to the play the RAF and we will need to put in another big performance if we are to progress further. They will be a formidable outfit and we will need to be at our best. The lads are really looking forward to taking on the RAF and hopefully we will be able to return home from there with a win.”
For Sunday’s game Campbell will hope to have a few more players available to further bolster the squad but will still be without scrum half Warren Ayres who is on holiday.
21st January 2010 - Warrington Wizards v Birmingham University (24/01/10)
Warrington Wizards entertain Birmingham University this coming Sunday weather permitting in the Carnegie Challenge Cup Preliminary Round. Kick off is 3.00pm at Wilderspool Stadium.
The Wizards will be hoping to start their 2010 campaign off in fine style by overcoming the Student side and earn themselves a place in the First Round away at the RAF the following weekend.
New Head Coach Chris Campbell is looking forward to getting his first game in charge under his belt but has been frustrated by the recent adverse weather that has prevented any training so far. He said, “It has been disappointing not to have been able to get a couple of training sessions under our belt but it just hasn’t been possible. We don’t know much about Birmingham so we will just have to concentrate on our own game and if we do I am confident that we will have enough quality to see us through.”
Campbell added, “It is nice that we can start our season with a home fixture and we want to put on a good performance for our fans that will put us in good stead for the rest of the year. A positive showing will do us the world of good.” 26th November 2009 - Wizards appoint Campbell as new Head Coach Warrington Wizards have appointed former Warrington, Whitehaven, Oldham, Rochdale and Blackpool star Chris Campbell as their new Head Coach for the forthcoming The Co-operative Rugby League Conference National season,

He will also continue to play which will be an added bonus to the club.”
Campbell is looking forward to this very exciting challenge. He said, “I am absolutely delighted that the club has given me this opportunity and I intend to grasp it with both hands.
